Season 1 - Part 6
This was made over the course of the past two to three days, as indicated by the change in how I did the lightning effect. First I drew thick jagged lines in a light yellow color (#FFF3BF to be precise), Stylize -> Outline, and then Blurs -> Gaussian (although the amount of outline and blur depended on the zoom). That last step was obviously not carried out on the first two panels.
The Barrier Beam panel required a different process from the rest, since I had to sneak SC's expression (a different layer which was usually made on the comic page and not the layout assembly) underneath two different effects (which were usually done on the assembly and not the comic page). As a result, I actually had to use resized sprites, so the image is actually at a zoom of 1x, resulting in the chrisper lightning. Normally, I'm assembling the whole comic in one image which averts this problem, but for battle comics like this, I use a different process so the fighter's positions are consistant from panel to panel. I dunno why I try so hard, since no one ever reads my stuff anyways, but I do.
Paint.NET can't do the wavy steam effect I use for Sparkz's infatuated word balloons (to achieve a dreamy effect, reflecting his state of mind under Amazee's influence). Those are done by pasting the balloons into a background resource in Game Maker 8 and running a script that accomplishes that effect that I'm using for Wario's Temple Trek (which has the credits for it in the help file), then screencapping. It should be noticed the degree of severity used for the effect is actually a little lower in the last panel... I love having those little artsy pieces of symbolism in my comics; especially since the only thing I can paint is the fourth wall.
Sparkz's text is a lighter shade here. Hopefully it's more readable then the other comics.
